The International Health, Racquet and Sportsclub Association (IHRSA), in partnership with ILAM, the Industry Body for Sports, Fitness, Aquatic Facilities, Outdoor Sector, Spas & Wellness, recently concluded the 9th Annual IHRSA European Congress, 22-25 October 2009, in Dublin, Ireland.
    “We thank all the attendees, exhibitors, speakers, and in particular, ILAM, for their graciousness and hospitality last week as we convened for the 9th Annual IHRSA European Congress,” said Joe Moore, IHRSA’s President and CEO. “The event was once again remarkable and confirmed our deep commitment to growing the global industry and focusing on the fundamentals that will enable success,” he said.
    “On behalf of ILAM we were very pleased to have hosted one of the best ever European Congresses with nearly 350 attendees from 26 countries joining us in Dublin,” said Kilian Fisher, CEO of ILAM. “I am confident we all will return to our companies, exercised physically and mentally, and refreshed with new insights,” he said.
    The European Congress included sessions by industry experts, including four keynote speakers, a gala dinner, supplier showcase, and tours of some of Dublin’s finest clubs. The four keynote presentations were delivered by executives from both inside and outside the health club industry, providing thought-provoking commentary on trends shaping business and the fitness industry in Europe and worldwide.

    The Annual European Club Leadership Award was given at this year’s Congress to the Theo Hendriks of Sport & Leisure Group, Netherlands. This award is given to the European club leader who has done the most to advance his/her company and the industry through strong leadership and performance.
